Hi!! My name is Jessie Duffy and I am currently a senior at Carolina Friends School. Growing up, I tried many different sports and extracurricular activities- ballet, tennis, running, basketball, you name it! By the time I reached 8th grade, I had tried enough sports to realize maybe they just weren’t my thing despite my athletic abilities. I began regularly going to the gym with my mom and discovered my passion for physical fitness. I discovered Crossfit in 2017 and since then I haven’t tried a single other sport. Lifting heavy weights and testing the variety of skills Crossfit presents in our WODs is (and will always be) my happy place.
Before I entered the realm of Crossfit, like many adolescents, I struggled with my body image. I attempted to solve these issues by using fitness to change the way my body looked, creating an unhealthy relationship with working out. Thanks to the Crossfit community and our philosophy, once I began attending Crossfit classes my focus shifted to physical fitness goals as opposed to altering my physical appearance. Suddenly, my relationship with fitness became healthy again and I learned to love my body.
As a coach, my goal is to help members not only achieve their goals and improve their skills, but to have their daily WOD be something to look forward to. As a member, I never dreaded coming to Crossfit because not only did I know I would leave the gym every day with something to be proud of, but I also had fun in the process because of our community. I want members to feel the same way I did and I believe a vast majority of that was a result of my coaches. They knew me individually for my strengths and areas of improvement and worked with me to reach the fullest of my potential, and along the way they also became some of my biggest supporters. As a coach, I want to have the same impact on members as my coaches did on me.
