As with many others, CrossFit became a fascination of mine during COVID-19 in 2020. I was a competitive dancer for 15 years and focussed mostly on ballet, contemporary, and tap dance. During COVID-19, dance classes via Zoom were not cutting it, so I transitioned to the outdoor CrossFit classes that were taught at my original gym in Asheville, NC. Ever since then, CrossFit has been essential in my fitness journey!
In my life, CrossFit has been amazing in helping me understand the unity of strength and endurance. When I was first introduced to the sport, my coach said "Other types of athletes may look strong, but they get winded walking up a flight of stairs". Since then, CrossFit has highlighted the necessity of a balanced workload. Since my childhood sport was endurance-focused, my major turning point in CrossFit was realizing that I was capable of pull-ups and handstand pushups!
I am impassioned by coaching because it allows me to play a role in the fitness journey of others! Since CrossFit is so collaborative, I love being involved in the celebration of someone's first handstand, the 'ah-ha' moment of unlocking a kipping swing, or hitting a new weight-lifting PR.
